Cruscate

Secondo la guida ai nomi e luoghi del SdA (“The Guide to the Names in The Lord of the Rings”) per i traduttori scritta da Tolkien anche il cognome Sackville-Baggins andava tradotto.

J. R. R. Tolkien, «Guide to the Names in The Lord of the Rings» ha scritto:Sackville-Baggins. Sackville is an English name (of more aristocratic association than Baggins). It is of course joined in the story with Baggins because of the similar meaning in English (= Common Speech) sack and bag, and because of the slightly comic effect of this conjunction. Any compound in the language of translation containing elements meaning (more or less) the equivalent of sack/bag will do.

Seguendo le indicazioni di Tolkien, il cognome Sackville si potrebbe rendere con Sacchi, Sacca, Sacconi, Saccavilla (e in italiano il nome normanno Hauteville lo abbiamo tradotto con Altavilla, perché non farlo in questo caso) oppure Sacchetti (come l'omonima famiglia nobile fiorentina).
